Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
