The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
