Congress Approves Legislation to Disclose Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the lower house and a shift by the president and his GOP allies. The administration gave in after an extended period of trying to block the joint action involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, accelerating the process. Hours earlier, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have been patient long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next will be sent to the president for his endorsement. The president stated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for an extended period dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and stated he would approve it if it is presented to him.

Response

Opposition lawmakers, along with survivors of Epstein and their representatives who were watching from a viewing area, applauded after the bill was passed. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who stated he was concerned the measure would make public identifying details of people, those under scrutiny and others caught up in the investigation.
